Another Sunday Afternoon

I was asked to give a talk today at church on the freedom to choose. Actually every time Bro Tanner in the bishopric asked me to speak I conveniently had to be out of town :) but I told him I was willing so he very graciously booked me out about a month and a half later. It didn't seem to make it any easier to get up in front of the whole congregation but I appreciated all the time studying and preparing. Apparently I did well because several people in the ward said I did well and they said they couldn't tell I was even nervous but boy let me tell you I was trying really hard to keep my voice from quivering.

I thought I would take some pictures today of a typical Sunday afternoon at our house. When we get home from church Jon usually starts a fire and we'll let Doak come inside if it's raining outside, which it was today.

Doak loves to give Jon kisses, and Jon loves to receive kisses haha. (These pics were taken with my iPhone so you can't really tell that Doak is doing anything cuz he's blurred out, sorry about that.)

Jon often time has the tv on while he's working, as you can tell he looks distracted.

Once the fire is burning he'll relax and enjoy some sporting event, this happens to be the US vs Canada Olympic Hockey game.

While I take a much needed nap. Jon always joins me, he looks forward to his Sunday naps all week long.

Even Doak gets to take a nap inside. This way it keeps him from being outside barking and keeping us up while we're trying to sleep.

We woke up to my visiting teacher dropping by to bring us over dessert. She's so thoughtful and sweet to make them look so nice, Jon and I are just excited to eat them!

Baby Gender Myths

Here are some of the myths that I have come across to determine whether our baby will be a boy or a girl.

Feeling good, no severe morning sickness. BOY

Age + number for the month you conceived and the sum is an odd number: GIRL

Your baby's heart rate is at least 140 beats per minute. BOY

You are carrying low. BOY

You are craving salty or sour foods. BOY

You are craving protein -- meats and cheese. BOY

The hair on your legs has grown faster during pregnancy. BOY

Your left breast is larger than your right breast. GIRL

You prefer sleeping on your left side. BOY

Your skin breaks out. GIRL

You feel graceful during pregnancy. GIRL

My sister, Keri, has a theory that if the oldest boy of a family has a boy first then the next boy in the family will have a girl first and so on. So Jon's older brother had a boy first so according to her theory Jon will have a girl first. GIRL

Jon's brother-in-law, Seth Hanson, apparently has a knack for being able to call whether a baby will be a boy or girl. He had two boys and then two girls and he called it accurately before each one was determined. He says that we are going to have a boy. BOY

The Hanson boys say I am going to have a boy. BOY

The Hanson girls say I am going to have a girl. GIRL

It's still early to tell but so far the tally is GIRL 6 to BOY 9. My mom has convinced me to wait until my baby shower to find out whether I'm having a boy or a girl. My wonderful sister-in-law April from the New York Newmans has so kindly offered to throw my a baby shower in July. I am going to let her decide how she wants to surprise me with the news. So Jon will be the only one to know until he decides to tell others, as long as they can keep a secret from me : ).

We're Having a Baby!

On January 1, 2010 we found out that Jon and I are going to have a baby! We had decided a month earlier that we wanted to have a baby but we thought we would wait a few months since we would be moving in the fall for grad school. But we were thrilled none the less.

This is just 9 weeks. I thought we would take the picture in the same outfit every time starting with when I still look thin.

This is 10 weeks and you can already see a little bump.

And this is just 11 weeks and I look considerable bigger than a week ago, granted I was very full from eating a large meal at dinner. But still, I'm getting bigger!
I have my next doctor's appointment on Monday February 22, 2010. I will have a physical and they will probably do another ultrasound to hear the baby's heartbeat. At the first appointment Jon went with me and they did an ultrasound. I thought that we would just hear the heartbeat I didn't realize that they would actually sound a picture of the baby, it was so special we got to see the bean with nubs growing inside of me. I took an early pregnancy class at Kaiser which was very informative and interesting. I learned how to have a healthy pregnancy and they even showed me fake examples of a baby at 10 weeks which was so small, then 15 weeks which was considerably bigger, and then at 20 weeks which was soooo much bigger.

Sacramento Zoo

We didn't take many pictures because there really wasn't much to see but we went to the Sacramento Zoo because on this day it was free.

Jon looks like he's having a really great time, hahaha.

GrandMarie is a new woman!

I was lucky enough to get to go with my GrandMarie to pick up her wig. It looked so good and natural on her, she was so beautiful.

This is on our way to Portland, she has her fabulous new wig on.

Crocker Art Museum

Jon was an art minor in college so he really appreciates going to an art museum. He had a great time.

This room had plenty of artwork to look at.

I thought this picture was humorous.

In this room there were more pieces of art that I liked.

I thought this piece was interesting.

I absolutely loved this one! I sat in front of it for like 10 minutes just examining it.

Jon wanted to take a picture in front of this one.

Home to Seattle for Christmas

Apparently this is the first snow in several years in Sacramento. I'm not sure why but it seems like everywhere I go that area has bizarre weather that is unusual for them.

I'm just glad it was light and didn't last very long, but the kids had fun while it lasted.

It also got unusually cold in the Sacramento area this winter so the Hanson kids would come over to our place and wrap in blankets near Doak's dog bed so they could all cuddle.

Jon and I drove the 12 hours or so to Seattle for Christmas.

My birthday is the day after Christmas so we got went bowling with friends and family. David came with Jonah, he was getting very tired so he just relaxed against me.

My brother David, and his baby boy Jonah and me.

He's a great daddy.

We were so happy to get to spend some time with our friends Kelly and Erich Winkler, as well as Jon's sister Wendy.

Oh and also Jon's brother Jeff.

This is Christmas at my GrandMarie and Grandpa Bill Sessions' house.

My sister Keri and I have the same iPhone with the same pink covers, I've had mine a little longer so I was showing her what she can do with it.

Friends & Family.... and dog

We went to IHOP for our nephew, Cole's, birthday. Here shown is Isabelle, Jeff, Jon, and Wendy.

Jon's little brother, Jeff.

We went to the Old Spaghetti Factory with our friends, Erich and Kelly Winkler. The guys were watching some basketball or football game while we were waiting to be seated.

We found out from the Hanson kids that apparently Doak likes to jump on the trampoline. So we let him jump around with us.

Jon had a great time trying to bounce Doak really high.

Doak is funny :)

Hawaii for Thanksgiving

We went to Hawaii for Thanksgiving because we felt we needed a vacation after spending all summer in Canada working and not getting a chance to get out and do anything. Jon has never been to Hawaii so it was exciting for me to show him around.
We stayed several days with my old roommate from Brigham Young University-Hawaii, Ruth, and her fiance, Tim. This is the view from Tim's place in Waikiki.

We walked down the strip of Waikiki and saw this gold man. He wouldn't face us for pictures unless we paid him a tip. Fair enough.

This is just one of the beaches we visited on the North Shore of Oahu.

We had such a good time.

We stayed at the Turtle Bay Resort for a couple of nights. They had these cool parrots in the lobby.

This is the view from our hotel room, with a handsome man in the way.

It was so beautiful.

The view never gets old, especially the sunsets... I love the sunsets!

Halloween in Utah

This is Jon's nephew, Max, who dressed up as a monkey for halloween. He was probably the cutest dressed kid out that night.

My husband is the one that looks like a creep, and his brother Jeff is wearing the karate kid outfit. I think Jon was going for the Robin Hood effect but he definitely ended up looking more like a pedophile.

The creepster and me, a footballer player - Lofa Tatupu actually, can't you see the resemblance?

We were visiting Jon's brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Liz, and their little boy Max and their new twin girls. I'm holding Cate and Jon is holding Ellie.
